These smushy figurative paintings are of people I care for and invite into my private life and space- friends, family, lovers, and myself. Ones I have seen in early mornings and late nights after I take out my contacts and I can only see soft blurry versions of them. I am inspired by these intimate and vulnerable half-blind moments. I wanted to recreate this by painting these obscured humans in my studio without my contacts or glasses and without fully seeing the canvas, photos, or my palette. It feels silly but also freeing as I can only focus on light, color, shape, and memory. The expectations for reality and the excruciating minutia of details are removed leaving a quite lovely painting experience.
